Spacers are used to maintain a consistent gap or alignment between parts or surfaces. By controlling spacing, these materials help prevent components from being crushed, improve assembly fit, and support reliable product performance.
When picking materials for spacers consider whether compressibility is desirable or not, and whether or not conductive properties are needed:
Compressibility. Rigid foam can be excellent for bracing, but can be brittle and crack.
Product Fragility. When using spacers in packaging, the density and thickness of the material determine whether a softer, more cushioning material is needed to adequately protect the product.
Density and Durometer. Material stiffness affects how much force is required to compress the spacer. Higher density foams or higher durometer elastomers resist compression, while softer materials are best used for filling small gaps or preventing cosmetic damage.
Whether preventing damage to delicate electronic components, creating panel or trim spacing, or reducing wear, Rapid Die Cut helps project teams bring better products to market.
